A suburban development of 21 houses and 6 apartments located in Hornchurch, Essex, the Hanbury Drive scheme achieved a 25% reduction in regulated CO2 emissions, and was successfully certified to the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3.
Hodkinson Consultancy was responsible for developing the initial energy and sustainability strategies for planning in 2011. These robust strategies were then implemented through the detailed design and construction process, resulting in compliance with planning targets, Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) and the Code for Sustainable Homes assessments.
Our early involvement in the project ensured that robust and realistic energy and environmental strategies were made a central part of the overall design of the development from the outset. Our intention was to ensure that the key features of these strategies would not only achieve compliance with mandatory targets, but also contribute significantly to the overall quality of the development and experience of living in it.
Features of the new homes include high levels of insulation, access to private outdoor space, secure cycle storage, good standards of internal daylight, high quality and responsibly sourced materials, generation of free electricity from solar photovoltaic panels and good practice sound insulation.
