The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) have announced additional capital funding is to be allocated to the Green Heat Network Fund (GHNF), and extension of the scheme to 2028.
The fund was set up in 2022 to support the development of new and existing low and zero-carbon heat networks. It has proved very popular, with the number of prospective applicants already exceeding the fund’s current size. So far, more than £117 million has been awarded across nine projects.
The announcement of additional capital funding comes alongside an extension to the timeframes, with funding now available over a longer period (to 2028). It is expected to continue to be highly competitive. We are currently within funding Round 6, for which the deadline date will be extended to allow more time to apply. This is still to be confirmed but anticipated to be end of September 2023.
Changes to the scheme rules may alter the types of projects eligible for support. We therefore encourage anyone who is interested to get in touch so that we can review with you as soon as the updated scheme guidance has been released.
