Wendy Hodkinson, co-founder of the company, died on Friday 11th August 2023 following a 3 year battle with Ovarian Cancer. She died peacefully with her family in Michael Sobell Hospice, Northwood.
Alongside her husband Richard, Wendy founded the company in 1998 to promote environmental and sustainability standards for new housing. The company was one of the first sustainability consultants in the UK and quickly became a respected leader in the field. As the company grew over 25 years Wendy was at the heart of its development.
Wendy was a Civil Engineer who spent her early career designing and constructing major road and motorway schemes in the South West and Midlands. She was a role model for women in science and engineering, graduating from Loughborough University in 1974 as one of just two women Civil Engineers that year. When her children were small she retrained as a Physics Teacher and taught in a local secondary school sharing her love of science with her students.
On founding the company Wendy primarily focused on environmental assessments and their development. She achieved the first Excellent EcoHomes assessment for a major housing scheme in 2000 and was closely involved in the development of the Code for Sustainable Homes with BRE. Her work made a real difference to the development of environmental awareness within housebuilding and the quality of many housing schemes.
She took great delight in the growth and success of the company and its staff. She supported many young people in the development of their careers and believed that people were at the heart of the company. Wendy and Richard both retired from the company board in December 2022.
Regardless of her many professional achievements, family was what really mattered to Wendy. She was so loved and will be greatly missed by her husband, two daughters and six grandchildren.
