We have just seen the completion of Brandon House, an exceptionally designed residence in the London Borough of Southwark which was built by Crest Nicholson. The site consists of 97 dwellings including 9 townhouses and over 3,000m2 in office and retail space.
We worked closely with the design and construction team to advise on the most effective way to comply with London Plan energy policies, exceed Building Regulations CO2 reduction targets and meet sustainability targets.
The development used a range of low impact construction materials, procuring these locally and in a responsible manner. Environmental impacts were also minimised using sustainable construction methods and practices as well as monitoring and managing energy, water and waste consumption, exceeding standards of best practice in site management.
BREEAM Excellent was achieved on both the office and retail units which put the units in the top 10% of UK new non-domestic buildings.
All dwellings achieved Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4. They were designed with both sustainable principles and pleasant living in mind. The design incorporated Lifetime Homes standards, and Secured by Design compliance, best practice sound insulation and cycle storage provision. Highly efficient mechanical ventilation and heat recovery systems (MVHR) were installed and water efficient sanitary-ware was also installed throughout.
