The draft London Solar Action Plan was published by the Mayor of London for consultation on 11th August. It sets out a key target to encourage more solar energy installations through the planning system, including for new development and retrofitted on existing buildings.
The new draft London Plan, to be published in November this year, will continue to encourage major development to use onsite renewable technologies where feasible to meet carbon reduction targets. It is likely that the role of the ‘Be Green’ stage of the energy hierarchy will be enhanced to allow for an increased uptake of solar PV.
The document also makes it clear that the Mayor will support the Boroughs in collecting carbon offset contributions from new development, and that these may be used to retrofit solar energy technologies on existing buildings.
